General Description

The ITS Computer Application Training Certificate Program is meant to give users a recognizable document that shows that they have mastered skillsets demonstrated in various ITS Computer Workshop Modules.

Recognition

This program carries no official status. It is not recognized by Software Manufacturers nor officially by the University. It is merely a recognition form that can show you or your supervisor that ITS acknowledges that you have attained certain levels of computer skills.

A significant number of supervisory staff here at UAlbany recognize the value of ITS Computer Classes. These supervisors may use these certificates in employee performance programs or for general employee recognition. Check with your individual supervisor concerning their performance program policies. Many attendees may also want to pursue certificates to test their own proficiency and for personal satisfaction.

Assessment

Certificates cannot be earned simply by attending classes and workshops. Each certificate requires the employee to attend a final testing session after completing the required sessions for the certificate. Tests will combine written questions and hands on skill evaluation. Only upon passing these tests will the employee be granted the certificate.

Certificates for Existing Skills

Employees who feel that they already have the skills for particular certificates can opt to attend only the testing session. Passing the test will earn them the certificate in question. Employees who have previously attended ITS Computer Workshops can also attend the appropriate testing sessions, they need not retake classes unless they desire to dust off their skills.

Not Interested in the Certificate?

That's fine, you can always continue attending workshops as you have been.
